Harbour Front
We went for a Genting Highlands trip in June 2005. It was organised by
the NTUC Income Travel.
NTUC Income Travel organised the similar tour again. Solomon was interested
in this trip because the cabin provided was the Ocean View Stateroom with
Balcony.
Four days before departure, Joanne from NTUC called to inform us that
we would meet at the Harbour Front Centre at 12 noon on the departure day.
There were 300 persons in this trip. NTUC would send tour guides to
assist us at the Harbour Front Centre for checking-in. The guides
would also be going to Genting Highlands with us. This arrangement
would be good for us.
We took a taxi to Harbour Front on 3rd December. The taxi driver asked us
whether we would like to alight at the back. We alighted at the front
of the building as usual. Then, we found that there were much changes
of this building. It might be nearer to the Singapore Cruise Centre
if we alight at where the taxi driver mentioned.
There were many tourists at the Cruise Centre. We tried to look for
anyone who might put on anything with NTUC logo, but we could find any.
Then we saw a few persons standing around a young lady and making queries.
She was Joanna. If NTUC Income Travel could put up notice at the entrances
of the Cruise Centre or let their guides putting on jackets with logo,
it would be easier for us to find them.
The arrangement made was better than that in June 2005. There were
special counters arranged for us to check-in. There was also
a staff of the Star Cruises asking one of us to do the check-in and
the other to queue up at the boarding point. Therefore, I did the
check-in and Solomon went to queue up at the boarding point with
his mother.
After getting the boarding pass, I went to the boarding point to
look for Solomon and his mother.
Upon boarding, we handed over our passports to the Cruise staff.
Then we had to pass through the security check.
At the passage, the cameramen of the Photo Gallery were taking pictures
for the guests. We took a family picture. After that, there was
another picture-taking point. Only Solomon was posted with
the cartoon animal.

This was the second time for Solomon and me taking this cruise.
His mother did not go for the trip with us last year.
After boarding, we kept our luggage in the room and
went to take our lunch at the Mediterranean Buffet Restaurant.
Although there were vegetarian lunch, there were not many
dishes and looked like Indian food.
I am the only vegetarian in the family.
Meals were provided free to the guests at Mediterranean Buffet
Restaurant located at Deck 12. The other two located at
Deck 6 were Bella Vista and Pavilion Room.
As usual, Solomon liked to go around every deck. He was not interested
any activities or movies provided for. He would be very happy if
he had a chance to visit the Captain's Bridge.
The Captain made an announcement on the emergency drill
and urged everybody to take part. We put on our life jackets
and gathered at Deck 7. The drill took place at 3.30 pm.
Our cabin was at Deck 10. Looking down to the sea from the balcony,
I was a little nervous. But Solomon was too happy to sit at
the balcony and enjoyed taking pictures.
I suggested taking our dinner at Pavilion Room. Solomon
thought that we better took our meals at the Mediterranean Buffet
Restaurant, as there were vegetarian food for me.
Mediterranean Buffet Restaurant provided super between 12 - 1 am.
We did not take any super because I needed to sleep early and
get up early the second day. When I went to bed around 11 pm,
Solomon was reading his storybook of King Kong at the balcony.

Reception and shops
4th December
We collected our passports from the Reception last night.
So that we could avoid the crowd this morning.
After our breakfast, we went to the top deck to take pictures.
At about 8 am, we assembled at the Lido Showlounge. We were sitting
at the different blocks by grouping.
At 8.30 am, we left the Lido row by row of seats according to the group.
While disembarking, crews were around along the way to guide us.
It was in very good order.
At the Port Klang customs, a number of checking points to
handle the tourists.
The officers of the immigration were efficient and we
got through in a short time. It is important that we spent
shorter time to pass through the immigration and customs,
so that we were be happy to visit the country again.
This trip was well organised. We were given a number each when we aboard
the cruise yesterday. The number showed us our coach number to and fro
Genting Highlands.
Although there were many coaches outside the customs, we could find
our coach easily according to the number given.
Once our group of people aboard the coach, we left for Genting
Highlands at 9.30 am.

Mountains around Genting Highlands
We arrived at Genting Highlands by noon.
When we were in the coach at Port Klang, there was a man told us
that to wait in the coach when arrived at Genting. He said that
keys for the guestrooms were be distributed to us in the coach.
Therefore, we sat in the coach and waited for the room keys when
the coach stopped outside the Theme Park Hotel. After a while,
a hotel staff came and asked us to go to the Lobby and collect
our room keys.
We brought our luggage to the Lobby and waited there again.
After sometime, a group member said that we had to go down one floor
to collect our keys. Actually, we were given the instruction to
do so when we were on board. I did not know why the man gave us
wrong instruction at Port Klang customs.
I liked the guestroom of Genting's hotels. There were two big beds
in the room and four persons could sleep comfortably.
There were only one flask provided. After filling up the hot water,
there was nothing for us to get cold water.
As we brought along a small bottle each with us, so
we filled up our bottle with cold water.
It was very disappointed that there were only two bath towels given.
How can three of us share two bath towels? Luckily,
we brought with us face towels.

The guest room of Theme Park Hotel
We were given a complimentary boarding pass each for the Genting Skyway.
After lunch, we went for the cable car ride. It took 15 minutes for
the 3.4 kilometers ride.
A few years ago, when we first took the Genting Skyway, I was a little nervous
when I saw we were in the rain forest. After taking a few times, I am used
to it now.
When we arrived at the Lower Skyway Station, we bought some
Malaysia products. The shopkeeper told me that there was
a zoo that we could visit. We did not visit it.

There were many meal outlets nowadays. I am a vegetarian.
I planned to have buffet lunch and dinner that few days, so
that Solomon, his mother and me could have our own choice of food.
But Solomon decided to save money for me, therefore he did not
agree to have buffet meals. He wanted me to choose any food
outlet; it was a problem for me as there were not many outlets
provided vegetarian foods. It was very annoying every mealtime.
I actually could take non-vegetarian food occasionally.
For this tour package, other than staying in the cabin of ocean view
stateroom with balcony, a free additional night hotel stay in Genting
Highlands, a complimentary boarding pass for Skyway, there was also
a complimentary pass to Genting Highlands Indoor Theme Park.
I misunderstood that the pass for Indoor Theme Park as the
Outdoor Theme Park. And we planned to spend the whole day at
the Outdoor Theme Park on the second day after arriving Genting Highlands.
I realised the mistake only before bed.

5th December
Although we brought our cardigans, Solomon did not put on it when
we were outdoor yesterday evening. He later went outdoor again
to have the fresh mountain air. He had a slight fever while sleeping
and could not wake up early in the morning.
When we went to the Happy Valley Restaurant for our buffet breakfast,
it was already 9 am and a long queue at the Restaurant.
After breakfast, we went to the Outdoor Theme Park.
We spent 100 Malaysia Ringgit for passes of two adults and one child.
There was equivalent to about 45 Singapore dollars.
We first went for boating. Each boat takes only two persons.
Solomon and I went boating and his mother was waiting for us.
We had to push the pedals with our feet simultaneously.
Solomon loved this game and was full of joy for the 15 minutes.
Solomon liked adventure, but I could not take it.
There were games he liked very much, but either he was too tall
for the game or too short for the game. He was disappointed.
We then went to the Dinosaurland. Every twelve persons took a boat
moving towards a cave. We spent a few minutes in the cave to
watch the dinosaur story. After that, we alight and went up a hill.
Solomon liked to walk on the suspended bridge. It was not
dangerous. But we had to walk very carefully if putting on
a pair of shoes without a good grip.
Another game that Solomon loved very much was riding on the Antique Car.
When we came to our turn, there was a car out of order and could not stop.
Two workers held on to it and the serviceman came to repair it.
We did not want to ride on it and took the car behind.
After going one round along the lake, we came back to the station.
The faulty car could not stop again and it went for another round.

The Outdoor Theme Park operated up to 10 pm during school holidays.
Solomon did not wish to go for boating again after dinner.
He was tired in pushing the pedals.
Solomon loved to visit the arcade.
I bought 20 Ringgit of tokens for him to play his favorite games.
He was lucky that he struck a target and got about 300 price tickets.
I told Solomon that I would only buy him 20 Ringgit of tokens for
playing games. When I came to Genting Highlands with my wife many
years ago, we used to plan that we could only spend certain
amount of money in the Casino. We did not like to gamble.
Solomon was happy to redeem his prize with the winning tickets.
I then bought a 10-Ringgit card for him to play the video games.
6th December
It was the last morning in Genting Highlands.
Solomon woke up early and we were able to take our breakfast early.
Before we went to the Arcade, Solomon lost his temper again.
He became very hot temper after going to the High School this year.
I accompanied him on board the cruise and at the Indoor Theme Park
as well as the Outdoor Theme Park in Genting Highlands these few days.
I was tired and could not stand for Solomon's hot temper frequently.
I was giddy and had to take a rest while Solomon went to play the
video games with his mother.
After playing games and getting some prizes, Solomon was very joyful
again. Crazy boy!
We checked out at 12 noon. We took our luggage to the floor below
the Lobby and kept in the room provided for the group.
The worker of the Coach Company wrote us the bus number and
seat numbers. It was well organised for this trip. We need
not to worry that whether we could get the seats for
the family to sit next to each other.
We then went to take our lunch.
There were 26 persons in our coach. As all of us were
in the coach punctually, we left the hotel at 2 pm sharp.
At 3 pm, we stopped 30 minutes at a shop for buying the Malaysia
products.
After shopping, we continued our journey until reaching Yong Peng
at 6.15 pm. We spent 45 minutes for our dinner. At 7 pm,
we left for Singapore through the Second Link.
