China, Here We Come (3)

My roommate Jun Xiang was headache on the day of departure. He was not healed last night. I let him use the Bona-Care Acu-Reflex Pen that I brought along. When I took up the traditional Chinese Medical course six year ago, I was afraid of using the acupuncture needle and one of my classmates introduced me to use that pen.

It was the opening ceremony for the Teochew Opera Festival and Trade Fair today. Those who took part in the stage performance and floats parade woke up as early as 3 a.m. to do the make-up. Jun Xiang did his own make-up and he could sleep until 4.30 a.m.

We took a coach to the People's Square after breakfast. Some went to the opening ceremony of trade fair. Five of our members took part in the floats parade. The five members made up as the Teochew Opera characters.

Our five members went to a float. We were told that there would be a bus to take me and another member to the terminal point of the parade to meet our members.

There were many Teochew Opera players gathered at the People's Square. Other than those from the China Teochew Opera groups, the others were from other countries.

I thought that we could walk together with the floats to the terminal point Times Square. But when the parade started, the floats moved very fast that made us and the crowds very surprised. There was no transport provided to take us to the Times Square.

We got a trishaw to take us to the Times Square. The trishaw man knew that we had to go to the Times Square as soon as we could; he did whatever he could to help us. When we arrived at the Times Square and found our members, they were looking for us.

We went back to the hotel. After taking lunch, most of us were tired and went to take a rest.

In the evening, those who performed in the opera of Stone decocting went for the rehearsal. The others went to watch the fire work.

We went to the Chinese Park. There was seating arrangement for the guests. The fifty-minute fire work started at 8.30 p.m.

That was the first time I watched a fire work at such a near distance. It was a wonderful night.
