Ignorance
The Healthy Spirit

I have seen both open strife and veiled struggle during my 36 years of working life. I was fed up of all sorts of spear and arrow.

I used to hold myself aloof from the world. It was my nature. Sometimes, there were superiors or friends would fight back for me. They could not stand for the bullies.

I was retired in 2002. That was about ten years after my father passed away. I then get rid of my father's prohibition of me singing Teochew opera. I attended the Teochew Opera singing class. I then saw the same war too!
Once when we had our class, I heard a lady classmate said, "I just come and learn singing only."
I realised what happened immediately. Hence I said loudly, "Sister, come and sit next to me. Let me see who dare to bully you!"

I was fed up of that. If you promise to promote the Teochew Opera, then you should try your best to do your part. Why fight? We came and learned singing Teochew Opera. Fight for what? Abnormal!

For the two or three years starting in year 2005, I arranged some of our Singapore Teochew Opera players to be interviewed by China Radio International (CRI). I just hoped to let the Teochew CRI listeners know about our development of Teochew Opera in Singapore.

Around the Christmas Day of year 2006, four senior staff from CRI visited Singapore.
We were carried out the interview at Teo Ann Huay Kuan. The CRI staff was unable to interview our teacher Raymond Goh alone by himself. Teacher Goh off hand had to arrange Shu Zhen at once for interview.
That made me understand "Whatever will be, will be."

Teacher Eric Tan was the third teacher who taught me singing Teochew Opera. At that time, when I joined the Teochew Opera singing class at Pho Leng Club, I was happy to find that the teacher was Eric Tan. I was grateful for the friends in Pho Leng Club. They were very kind and friendly to me. I then made myself at home in a short time. 1 September 2008 evening was an unforgettable day. After celebrating the Teacher's Day, Eric continued with the teaching. That evening, he helped me to sing to the correct tune of the song "Reunion at the Capital". That was the first time I enjoyed singing Teochew Opera.

But the good days did not last long. When I was enjoying the friendliness of the class for about six months, it was then cloudy. In order to help Teacher Eric overcoming the vertigo, I lived with the great pressure in the class. Soon after he took part at the Chen Chu Hui Classic Teochew Opera Concert, he recovered. I then thought of taking a break. In the early 2010, I dismissed myself from the class as well as from the circle of Chinese Opera.

At the recent China trip, I had a good talk with Jaime.
A day prior the departure, we talked through the phone again.
When I was certain that she would try her best to take care of me, I decided to go for the trip. After that I posted on my Facebook to request my friends to pray for me and give me the blessings.
I was grateful.

Praise the Lord! I received a message prior to the departure.
Weak people   revenge.
Strong people   forgive.
Intelligent people   ignore.

He wished me to be the third kind of person.

With the blessing from my wife and son
the thinking of my beloved young friend
and all the good wishes of my friends
I was set free!
