Elegant Deportment
The Mind - The Appearance

I started work when I was 19 years old. It was a clerical office work staring at 9.00 a.m. and ending at 4.30 p.m.

Although our media was English, but we used various languages in our daily office life. Other than English, we spoke Mandarin, Teochew, as well as whatever language that we understood.

My close friend Victor was a Teochew. Hence, we talked to each other in Teochew. My Supervisor was a Hockkian. He knew that I was from Chinese School, therefore he let a Teochew senior to teach me about my work.

There was another Supervisor a Teochew too. We spoke Teochew to each other. Once when I walked past his desk, he said in Teochew, "Wa! Di (little brother) Arh! Walking with wind."

I thought I walked too fast. So when I walk past him, made him feel that there was breeze. I just turned to see him and smiled at him. Our office did not have any air-conditioned then. We did not switch on the electrical fans too strong. Or else the documents might fly away.

As I always heard him saying that 'I walked with wind', so I asked a colleague that whether I walked too fast. That colleague laughed and he said that the Supervisor meant that I walked with a refined manner. Another colleague said in Mandarin, "He said that you walked with an elegant manner (風度翩翩)."

My school uniform for Primary School and Secondary School are the same in colour, white shirt and khaki short. When we were at Pre-University level, we still put on short only at our time.
After working, I used to wear trousers of black, brown or dark blue. My shirt would be either white, light pink or light blue. I was keen in matching the colours of my shirt and trousers. They were very pleasant in others' eyes.

When I was young, I tried to find out why the models walking with an elegant manner.
In order to walk with an elegant manner, I spent some times and practised walking in a straight line.
But I thought it was my state of mind made me looked elegant. I was always full of joy and young at heart. I will not be dejected. Hence I walked with an elegant manner (風度翩翩).
