The Hazy Days
How I Lived With

During the last ten days of September 2015, the haze had made my son suffering from cough. I went to the Chinese Herbal Shop to buy the herbal tea. There was no more $1.50 per package herbal tea. The shop would make up the prescription on the spot and it was $5.00 per package now. I then realised that I did not take that herbal tea for years.

More than 10 years ago when we had SARS in Singapore, I used to take that herbal tea. We did not need to boil it. We just poured the boiling water into the pot of the herbal tea. When it was not very hot, we poured the tea into a glass and added a bit of salt for drinking. Now I had to pay for $5. I thought the amount of herbal tea was quite large for my son. The boss said that I shared it with my son. I should take the tea to take precaution.

On the day when my son and his girl friend did not need to work, I made the herbal tea. There were four persons' shares. As usual, mama did not want to drink, so I had to take two persons' shares.

When the condition of haze became worst, we closed the windows during the day. At night while sleeping, we switched on the fan and closed the windows too. I used to sleep with the fan switching on and keeping the windows open. I would wake up if the windows closed. But I slept well with the windows closed during the hazy days. I might be aware subconsciously that the air outside was terrible.

I was healthier in the family. Besides, I did exercise every morning when I woke up. During the hazy days, I was able to do exercise in the room. It has been a year for me to do the morning exercise. Hence, I lived rather fit and well under the hazy condition.

I tried my best not to rush or run when I was outdoor. Last time when I went out, I might chase after the bus. Now I just walked as my own pace and waited for the next bus.

I remembered hard that not to go under the rain. I used to keep an umbrella in my backpack. I used it when there was a heavy rain and I had to catch up with the time. If the rain was not heavy, I might walk under the rain without my umbrella. But now even if the rain was not heavy, I did not want to walk under it.

I kept mask in my backpack too. But I did not use it. Only when I had problem in breathing, then I would use the mask.
