I was once a vegetarian. My son used to take vegetarian food with me when he was young.

When my son was about 12 years old, once he told me that he would like to eat herbal chicken. But he could not finish the dish. I had then to share with him the chicken. From that day on, I sometimes skipped my vegetarian meals.

For the recent three years, I started to take very little meat. I might be old and liked to take light food.

There is no vegetarian food sold at our nearby coffee shops and hawker centre.

When I took my meals, I used to take potato, bean curb, pumpkin and peanuts, etc. The hawkers knew my favourites and they did not ask me whether I would like to have pork or chicken.

But I liked my home-cooked brown rice best.

I cooked with the brown rice from Thailand. I did not need to soak the brown rice before hand. I just washed the rice and then cooked for about twenty minutes. I liked to put in the canned fried gluten with peanuts. I made use of half a can for every meal. I also added Chinese cabbage.

When the rice was almost cooked, I added in the Chinese cabbage. After that, I added the fried gluten with peanuts. The meal would be ready in another five minutes' time.

The way I cooked was different from others. The rice was not dry but with some water with it. It was delicious!
