Missing an Opportunity
Intellectual Health

I ever heard a pastor described about "opportunity" many years ago. An opportunity was like a ship anchor alongside the dock. When hearing the siren and knowing that the ship is leaving, we have to make up our mind whether to board. We will not know when it will be back.

When we had our last Keep Fit Exercise session last December, I told the class that we would definitely not to continue any more.

In the beginning of this year, some of the classmates still wished that I would change my mind. Even at the end of March, a friend asked me that whether he could help to re-start the class. I told him that nothing that he could help. I decided to stop all my voluntary activities for our community.

A gentleman who always skipped the class often told me that he wished to attend the class. I asked him the reason for him to skip the class for the last three years. He said that there were too many ladies that he was shy to attend. I told that his health was his own concern. I always reminded the class to wear moderately. We came to the class for exercise and why needed to be shy.

Another friend thought it was a pity to call off that activity. I ever invited him to join us for several times as I observed that he needed to keep himself fit. We had the exercise twice per month and it was free. He could just come for a try. Then he could decide whether to continue with it. Lately he was weak in health. He visited doctors, took medicines and did not see any improvement. Then he remembered about our Keep Fit Exercise, but there was no more opportunity.

I took up body training at YMCA when I was young. My trainer used to talk with me during the training. He reminded that if I took up body massage course in future, I better be aware that whether the class was all women. I better not to join. Or I would be the object for them to carry the hand-on practice. And I would not have any chance for practicing. He thought that I was a man and was not allow to do massage on the women.

I took up full body massage course in 2003. Prior to the course, my massage master told me that I would be the only man for the four-person class. I decided to go ahead because I was not sure when would be another such intensive course.

On the first day of our course, the three women had a discussion and decide that we took turn to massage for each other. That would be fair for me to have hand-on practice too. Thank you very much my fair ladies.

I was simple-minded. Years after years, I grew with wisdom granted by God. I understand that once the ship leaves the dock, I will not know when it will be back. Therefore I have to make up my mind and grasp the opportunity if I wish.
