I used to attend the Pot Luck Bonding Club at the
Residents' Corner of Residents' Committee at Block 30 Teban Gardens
every Friday.
I learned from an Indian grandma the game of Cherki. Cherki is a card game of the Paranakan. The Indian grandma used to packs of cards and there were all together 120 cards with 30 different designs. There were 4 cards for each design. Then she arranged the cards into 8 rows with 14 cards for each row. The balance 8 cards set aside were spare-cards. The game is to pair up every two cards with the same design. She started to take from either ends of the rows of cards with the same design and put aside. When she could not get the pair of cards, she would get one from the spare-cards to match. Sometimes the consecutive cards might be the same design. When all the cards were set in pair, the game would be over. She played five times and finally made it.
It is a little confuse for the beginner.
When I started to play this card game, I tried to
find out the difference on top of each card. When making use of the spare cards, we have to observe that whether we are able to pair up any cards after that. Like while if there are three cards can be paired up, We have to consider which cards to pair up will be better for our next step. Practice makes perfect. After playing the game for many times, I can recognise the designs better. I am also more alert to observe those cards can be paired up. |
