Be Humble
Our Mind

Arriving at the Hong Kar Eldercare Centre, I met the Volunteer Leader (VL). Looking at the young VL, I wondered whether she could lead.

Praise God! The power of Love struck me. The Holy Spirit within overcame the evil thought. I restrained my pride.

I was Chinese educated. I learned that "One loses by pride and gains by modesty" (歉受益 满招损).

I joined a small group at the activity time. We were playing cards. Some of the elderly were wilful. Some of the staff seemed very fierce. I kept calm and controlled myself.

Until the Tea Time, then I understood that the staff tried prodding them into action.

After the Tea Break, we continued with the sing-along. The young volunteers playing guitar, singing songs composed by themselves. The elderly were happy and enjoyed the songs very much.

When saying goodbye to the elderly, I was very touched by the young volunteers.

I have started to focus on the elderly for my voluntary activities since 2008. When working together with the young people, there were also a lot to learn from them.

One loses by pride and gains by modesty
