Where Are the Chironomids from?
Where Are Our Talented People?

It has been about 10 years since we were invaded by the chironomids every July. The chironomids did not bite or suck our blood. They flied around in the rooms and rested on the wall. It was irritating.

We used to get ready the invasion of chironomids when it approached July. We had to bear with them for a month until they disappeared. But it was different this year. We still saw them in September.

The chironomids did not only invade a few families. Almost all families in Teban Gardens and Pandan Gardens were suffered. Hence it was not any household incidentally bred the chironomids. The chironomids might be from the reservoir.

The chironomids did not suck our blood. How did they survive in the water? How could they survive in the water?

Chironomids flied. Most of them looked like larvae. How did the larvae grow in the water? Did they suck the blood of the fish? Did the fish eat the larvae?

Those chironomids invaded into our flats died on the second day. They had very short life. How many days did they take to grow?

Fogging was carried out, but it did not work.

Singapore is always Number One in many aspects. Why no talented people carry out the study on those tiny creatures? Are we waiting for them to evade all over the island then we take it seriously?

Where and how the chironomids survive before July?
How did they start to reproduce?
Were they living by the side of the reservoir?
If they were, could we cover the side of the reservoir with yarn net before they fly out of the reservoir?
