I met my fellow volunteers of Bishan Team at Vivo City on 19 September.
We then went to attend the Workforce
Appreciation Party at Universal Studios in Resorts World Sentosa.
I was glad to meet our cheerful team members again after the YOG.
We enjoyed our evening at the Studios. We were excited when we
knew that we could have the complimentary ticket to the F1.
We registered in a short time and efficient way. We just confirmed
our data retrieved from the computer was correct. Then wait for the ticket
to be sent to us.
After that, I did my countdown everyday. I wondered whether there was a
ballot and I was not the lucky bird.
I also wondered I was fortunate enough but if the postman came in time.
On 22 September when I opened my letter box, I was excited to see an
envelope from the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.
It was the F1 ticket of 24 September. Thanks our postal service to deliver
in time. Two days to the event.
That afternoon I was on my way to Golden Mile Complex.
When I got out of the Tanjong Pagar MRT Station, it was heavy rain.
I went to Robinson Road to wait for the bus 100.
The bus stop was very crowded. We could hardly see any bus.
Someone said there was road closure. Some went to read the notice at
the bus stop. The notice printed with tiny numbers. Some had to take
away the glasses and put the nose on the notice to find out what it was.
Then everyone kept waiting again.
As I had to teach English at 6.30 pm, I was worried after waiting for half an hour.
I then decided to walk to the bus stop one stop away prior to the one I was.
After ten minutes' walk I found the bus stop and got up a bus 100.
My goodness, that bus would not pass through Robinson Road!
Why were we so stupid? So many of us read and did not understand the notice!
Why was the authority not clever enough? Why printed that kind of notice?
It made us stupid Singaporeans ‘catch no ball’!
What we needed was an A4 notice pasted on the bus route sign with the simple
English “No bus services except 97...”. At the same time, be kind enough
to print an advice “Walk to Cecil Street for your bus.”
It was troublesome, right? Then get someone help us out at the bus stop.
Don't let us look more stupid, please!
It was very convenient to print a notice for using all over the area.
But it wasted how many times of hours! Time is money!
I went to the F1 on 24 September.
I followed the instruction carefully. I took a train to City Hall Station,
then walk along the City Link Mall.
Following all the signs, I got out at One Raffles Link.
Not only the tourists, many Singaporeans like me lost our way looking
for Gate 7.
I saw many people took the escalator up and then came down again.
As it was almost 6 pm, I took the escalator up.
I walked across the short pedestrian crossing to Marina Square.
Then I saw an unnoticeable notice showing where Gate 7 was.
The authority should invite some non-F1 persons to find their way and
check that whether sufficient notice used prior to the event.
While sitting at the Bay Grandstand, I saw the Float @ Marina Bay.
It made me recall the YOG and the YOG Main Media Centre.
It made me think of the Bishan Team. Oh dear, why I did not see any
one of them?
I sat on the first seat of a row and saw all the seats on my left were vacant.
I was recently on Facebook. When I got my F1 ticket on 22 September,
I posted a question to see whether our team members got the ticket.
I did not get any reply!
A member posted on the Facebook that she received the ticket on 27 September!
Oh dear, the race was over!
Quite a number of volunteers were kind enough in supporting
whatever they faced before YOG in order to make it a success.
After the YOG, we first read the news of wrong signatures
and then the tickets received after the event.
What was happened?
It was not that fair to let the Minister to shoulder and apology every time.
I do not wish to punish anybody. But we have to find out what went wrong.
Were the mistakes made by the same group of people?
Was the working procedure appropriate and efficient?
We have to find out the causes and take corrective actions.
Give those people involved proper training and improve their
productivity. We will have more grand events to handle.
We need new blood. But there was a Chinese saying that
the old ginger is more spicier. The young man might be creative
and the lao kok kok old man could prevent you bump against the wall.
老姜通常比较辣!
