SHOWTIME!
Dazzling display kicks off inaugural Youth Olympic Games

........
I was a volunteer of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games (YOG). I performed my four-day duty at the Main Media Centre (MMC) @ Marina Bay Sands before the Opening Ceremony of YOG. I was off on 14 August the day of the Opening Ceremony.

That evening when I was surfing the Internet in my study room, it was raining heavily. I was worried about the Ceremony and the audiences. Hence I kneeled in my bed and prayed. I tried to surf the webcasting, but it was not online yet. I wanted to call those colleagues who were on duty at MMC. I did not do so in order not to disturb their work. The rain was then heavier. I thought of the floods happened recently. I kneeled and prayed once more until I had a peaceful mind. I requested God to stop the rain and let the Opening Ceremony to go on smoothly. I continued to surf the Internet and looked out the window off and on.

Finally the rain stopped. I kneeled and thank God.

I was sorry for the performers, audiences and athletes. I thought they would be soaking through.

At 7.58 p.m. I found that the webcasting of the Ceremony was online. I was very surprised to see that the Float @ Marina Bay and the audience seats were dry. There was no sign of rain!

On 15 August the Sunday Times reported the event, and there was a statement of where a threatening rain miraculously stayed in the heavens.

The statement touched me very much. As a Christian, I always pray for almost everything. Several months prior to the YOG, we prayed for the Games almost every Thursday at our Thai Prayer Meeting. God miraculously answered to our prayer. We also prayed for my son Solomon who would work at the Youth Olympic Village (YOV).

a threatening rain miraculously stayed in the heavens

When I read the news of a religious organisation gathered to pray for YOG, I was very touched.

As a Christian, I always pray God leading me in my life and my work. I would like to have my life well lived that glorifies God and benefits others.

On 10 August morning the first day I reported duty at MMC, everything was new to me. I felt constrained and fetters. My Malay colleague told me about her feeling o the second day afternoon. I then realised she also had the same feeling as me. I was sorry for her because I was her supervisor. I told her that let us do our best, we should still smile and provide the best service. We had to give our guests a good impression.

When I reported duty on 12 August noon, I thought I had to struggle to serve our media from all over the world. Suddenly I remembered that it was Thursday, the day we used to have our Thai Prayer Meeting. I prayed that I would have the breakthrough and complete my day's duty with a peaceful mind. Then our colleague Sherrin Lin sent a colleague from the Media Help Desk to learn the work from me. At the same time, Doreen the colleague in the morning shift stayed back to help me as the Malay colleague was off. I observed Doreen was serving out guest with an extra mile. She was finding out the laundry service in details for the guest. I was very happy. I thought we had to be flexible. I felt that we could help our guests with our best effort. That was the breakthrough. I then thought that it was worth for me to stand at the welcome desk for a long hour.

The atmosphere was good. That evening I was unconsciously discussing with the manager on getting on well with working partners. I said that she might be tired after working for a number of weeks. I asked her to have a good rest when going home. Smiling to herself in front of a mirror in the morning. Telling herself that it would be a good day. Whoever comes to the desk would be a nice person. Say sorry to the person even if he gets angry. We do our best to help. But sometimes one could only seek help from other source. We must be confident and positive. I then concluded our talking by promising that I would continue to pray for her.

It was my last day at MMC on 13 August. I recalled that we kept praying for YOG, my volunteer with YOG and Solomon's work in YOV. I then thought that we had to pray for other volunteers and the athletes. Hence, I sent message through mobile phone to three pastors and request them to pray for YOG. I sent to three pastors because Solomon and I attended Sunday worship service at Queenstown Church and Bedok Church on alternate Sunday. I myself attend the Thai Prayer Meeting on Thursday.

Rev. Tapio from Thai Good News Centre and Rev. Rati Wong from Bedok Lutheran Church replied promptly. As Rita the first time received such a request, she got to find out more. I was glad that both of them earnestly practised what they advocated. They did not stay in heaven, they concerned about the nation. They were the servants of God and the angels of the world. Like Jesus, he was always with the crowds.

When I was watching the Opening Ceremony in front of the computer on 14 August, I was excited. The inaugural Youth Olympic Games finally started. I thanked God bless us with the good weather.

Then Jesus got into the boat and his disciples followed him.
Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake,
so that the waves swept over the boat.
But Jesus was sleeping.
The disciples went and woke him,
saying, “Lord, save us! We are going to drown!”
Jesus replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”
Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves,
and it was completely calm.
