When I was young, other than the China Coins,
we also used various British Colonial Coins in Singapore.
The coins we used included coins of East India Company, Commissioners of Currency Malaya, Malaya and British Borneo, as well as Straits Settlements.。
The coins were in the shape of round and square, and of different sizes.
We usually looked at the amount and did not bother if they were fake.
The half a cent coin of 1940 was a precious gift from my friend Min Pei (敏培).
He was a lovely boy I met at the Singapore Amateur Players (新加坡艺术剧场).
When I was young, I did not bother the coins were from various sources.
I remembered there were extreme shining twenty cents coins and fifty cents coins.
They were made of silver. I used to pick them from among the other
coins for my father. He told me that those coins could be sold at
the higher value than that of the coins.
Woman liked to make use of the coins with the portrait of Queen Victoria
as adorns. It could be a pendant or button.
I liked to collect notes and coins. I used to keep the coins in small tins
and put in the drawer. After my retirement, I enjoyed appreciating
those old coins. They sometimes brought me sweet memories.
