I read from the Chinese newspaper that there were a number of
popular people using Facebook and there were also many comments.
In Singapore we translated the Facebook into Chinese as Mianbu (面簿).
I did not read carefully and thought it was Mianbo (面薄).
I thought it was the flat noodle that the Teochew people called it
as Meebok (面薄). I wondered why so many people like to eat Meebok,
my favorite!
Some of my friends mentioned about Facebook to me more than two years ago.
They told me that I could see the photos they took in the Facebook.
I accessed to it and could only view a few photos.
I had to register an account in order to see all the photos.
At the time I used to receive invitation to open an account
at various websites. It was rather troublesome for me.
I did not like to remember so many user name and passwords.
Hence I did not take any action.
I had more free time to surf the Internet after I was retired in 2002.
I went to many chat rooms. I used ICQ and then QQ. I
got so many accounts and passwords. I was confused and
finally only used an e-mail account only for keeping touch with friends.
We went to Universal Studios in Sentosa Resorts World for our YOG
Workforce Appreciation Party on 16 September.
Many of us took photos and they said that uploading the photos to
Facebook and each one of us could see the photos there.
That idea forced me to be on Facebook.
The second morning, 17 September, I tried to register an account and I faced
a problem. The system insisted that I had to make a call and it was
an overseas phone number.
I was unhappy. I thought it was free to be on Facebook and why
the system made me spending money for an overseas call.
In order to see the photos taken by our YOG team, I had a few trials to
register an account with Facebook and I failed.
Then I turned to our helpful Sherrin for assistance. She said that
I did not need to supply all information.
I did the registration again with the same procedure and it finally worked!
After having an account with Facebook, I was busy in requesting people
to be my friends. I was also busy in accepting people as my friends.
It was a wonderful busy day!
I soon found out my son Solomon was also on Facebook. I request him to be my
friend and he accepted it. Then we, the father and son, became friends on Facebook.
It was excited for me to see Solomon was online two days later.
That was a beautiful Sunday. I was going to Queenstown Church and
he was going to Xiu Shui Street in Beijing. We had a brief chat
and it made me very happy. We were so far apart yet so near.
The Facebook started to recommend friends and suggested people
you might like to make friend with. Then I got in touch with
friends did not meet for a long time.
I finally understood that why so many people liked to eat Meebok!
