When I was asked to be the group leader for our Group's Community Project,
I wonder what I can do with the elders.
After a few discussions with the coordinator Ms Tan of the Wellness Centre,
I decided to lead our group to have a massage session for the elders.
I picked up massage myself by reading a book bought in 1983.
I later applied what I learned on some of the patients when I visited
them in hospitals.
I only realised the effect of massage when I applied it on my
seriously ill father at the end of 1984.
In order to get as many as my eight-member team to pick up
massage at a short period, I wrote down a few key methods
and did a quick demonstration.
In fact, I hoped that four out of the eight persons in our group
can do the simple massage on the appointment date.
On the morning we were at the wellness centre, the coordinator
asked the elders who would like to have a massage.
I was a little surprise to see that about eighty percent of
them would like to have it.
I was delighted to see that other than me, there were two
experienced members. The other two members picked up
a few simple steps fast and they did it well.
We completed our session in about one and a half hours.
When we were leaving the centre, many of the elders were
thankfully saying goodbye to us. Some of them asked
when we would be there again.
