The Prime Minister of Song Dynasty, Liu Mao, tried to choose a husband for his daughter Liu Yue Er. Yue Er was fond of the talent of the poor scholar Lv Meng Zheng. Liu Mao looked down upon the Lv Meng Zheng and disagreed with the daughter. Yue Er insisted to marry to Lv Meng Zheng. Hence, Liu Mao chased them out. Liu Yue Er then went back with Liu Meng Zheng to his village. The following year, Lv Meng Zheng went to the Capital for an imperial examination and came first at the examination.

This is a traditional opera performed at the beginning of the Teochew Opera. Its significance is the reunion of the true love after going through difficulties. There was a scholarly honour, reunion, jubilance and propitious occasion. Whatever shows to be performed on stage later, there is always a good beginning.
