Earlier this year, my form teacher (also the head for Information
Technology), Mr. Yeo, told my classmates and I that we would be taking part
in a international conference later this year,
after the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE).
Time flies and before long, PSLE was over and more
details about the conference came in. It was the
International Conference on Computers in Education (ICCE).
It would be held over 3 days at the
National Institute of Education (NIE). We would be presenting
on using Vox Proxy to help students learn better.
Vox Proxy is an add-on for PowerPoint which uses
talking and animated cartoon characters.
Preparation for the Conference started almost immediately.
We had to make a Presentation and set up a display board
for our booth. The preparation took a long time, but was
a meaningful way to spend the time after PSLE.
On 28th November, everything was done and it was the
ˇ°preparation dayˇ±. On that day, all participating schools
would bring their equipment to NIE. Despite only having
to set up our booth, it was a fun day.
The campus was huge, especially when compared to
my primary school.
On 30th November and 1st December, these were the
actual days for ICCE. It was fun and we even met the
director of a certain company! Some of the delegates
showed interest in purchasing Vox Proxy. However,
we were not selling or advertising for Vox Proxy but
just showing how it could be used to help students
learn better.
On 2nd December, It was the last day of the conference.
With little delegates, it was the most boring day of the
Conference. Every School had packed up early as the
main aim was to actually get the equipment back to School.
At the end of the conference, we were tired yet happy.
It had been an interesting experience to participate in an
International Conference.
