Mama Seow Hong has been learning playing Erhu for about 10 years.
She made use of the free time to learn playing Erhu when
Solomon was at school. Her first instructor was from China.
The instructor's son who was from China was working in Singapore.
The instructor and his wife came to stay with his son and
took care of the grandchild. He taught a handful of students
playing Erhu in his son's flat near where we stayed.
When the instructor went back to China, Mama Seow Hong
looked for another instructor. She then needed to travel
further away from home to attend the lessons. After
learning for 15 months, she was busy and stopped attending
the lesson.
Then she became a member of the Jurong Town Community Centre
Chinese Orchestra for a few years until the Centre was under
going a reconstruction.
She was then transferred to the Boon Lay Community Centre
Chinese Orchestra.
Mama Seow Hong was interested in playing Erhu. She spent times
in playing the Erhu at home. The Orchestra would present a
performance at the Singapore Conference Hall on 30 December 2006.
