God's Gift |

God did not answer my prayer? I like children. But I did not have any child until October 1993, it was 17 years after I was married. I remembered that God always answered to my prayers. I got whatever I requested for, a job of my interest, high position, admirable salary, a spacious flat, and a good wife, except children. It was in 1986 when I removed from Holland Village to Teban Gardens. I invited our pastor and church members to have a prayer meeting at my flat. During the meeting, I realised that God had a plan for me. First, I had to submit myself to him, serve him. Then, I had to bring my wife to God, make her a child of God. Finally, God would bless me with a child.
Seeking God's Plan
Be a Missionary Thereafter, LMT sent two missionaries, Salli Lamponen and Anneli Konni, to Singapore and Malaysia for a study trip at the end of 1988. It followed by a two-week field work at Golden Mile in March 1989. By August 1989, the Lutheran Mission to Thais in Singapore (LMTS) started its operation through the Thai Good News Centre. Salli Lamponen was transferred from Thailand to Singapore to manage the Centre. Being a volunteer worker and serving God among the Thai, I got to understand God's plan for me better and better. Finally, I resigned from my company in mid-1990 and started an one-year study in the grassroot ministry at Singapore Bible College. I went to Thailand for a two-week mission study trip immediately after my graduation. When I was back from Thailand, I had to take over the post of acting Director because Salli Lamponen went back to Finland for her three months' furlough. During those three months, I realised that I was not only a good computer personnel, I could also be an instrument for God's noble purpose. When Salli was back from Finland, I was supposed to continue working in the computer field. But I stayed to be a full-time worker after many prayers with Salli and the prayer group.
Make her the child of God
The Most Precious Gift from God Then it followed by months of trusting in God. She was above 40 years old then and was expected for the first baby. We believed that God would take good care of us and the baby. We did not go for the test and we told our gynaecologist that we would accept the baby. Everyday, everything went on very well. A few weeks closed to the delivery, the doctor told us that everything was fine for my wife and the baby. He also said that the baby is the gift of God for us. My son Solomon was born three days later than the expected date. When I first saw Solomon, I was stunned. He was very fair and lovely. The doctor was very happy that he congratulated me as he was my father. I remembered that on the second morning, Solomon smiled when our Christian friends visited us in the hospital and they sang the Thai hymn "I am thinking of you " to him.
Whenever I recall what God promised me during the prayer meeting at our new flat in 1986, then I understand that God is great. He has a plan for everyone. When we listen to him and follow him, he will make the way for us. We have to walk with him by faith, not by sight. |
