My Idol Held A Concert
The First Time My Son Worked

It was 14 December 2008. My son wake up late that morning. When we arrived at Queenstown Lutheran Church, it was after 11 o'clock and we were late.

On the way to the church, my son said, “you did not ask me when I was home.”
I went to bed around 11 o'clock that Saturday evening. On Sunday morning, I wake him up and we were hurried to the church. I did not think of anything.
After hearing what he said, I asked, “when did you come back last night?”
“12.30”
“Oh! I see.” I answered and concentrated in my driving
My son said again, “you did not ask me why so late.”
I then asked, “why?”
“Your idol held a concert and I worked at the concert.”
I turned and glimpsed, “who?”
“Andy Lau.”

My son later showed me his Production Crew Pass for the concert. He also kept a post concert celebration ribbon printed with the wording ‘Andy Lau Wonderful World Concert 2008’. He presented it to me.

That was the first time my son worked without letting me know about it.

He went to Singapore Indoor Stadium to help his schoolmate on 13 December 2008 evening. As he was inexperience, he could only help to handle the cable for the cameraman. He would learn and later be a cameraman. His schoolmate gave him $20 as the reward that evening.

We went to the Hawker Centre to have our lunch after worship service. We talked about his work. He was one of the Production Crews. He was lack of experience. Besides he was too young to carry the production camera for a long period. Hence he only assisted the cameraman.

He was then at Secondary Three. He was also short when he was about 15 years old.

I told him that he had to pay attention to his studies. He would work only when he had free time during weekends.

My son used to take pictures with me when he was young. He took up media as his CCA when he was at Primary School. They won an award for the video they produced then.

When he was at Secondary Three, he discussed with me about his choice after completing his Secondary Four study. He would like to take up media-related course in Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

I supported him. I asked him to work hard and try his best to get a good result for his examination. With the good results, he decided to study in Polytechnic and no one would look down upon or make any comments.

In order to fulfill his dream, he worked hard. At the same time, he picked up experience by starting as an assistant of the cameraman at his free time.

At one of the 2010 Singapore National Day Celebrations, he was delighted as he was the cameraman taking video at the aerial platform of a crane.

He worked at the Youth Olympic Village during the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) 2010. One day after his work, he was excited to tell me that his video shooting was live telecasted world-wide that afternoon.
