Few weeks ago I tried to tidy up the desk used by my son Solomon when he was young.
There were a number of compact disks. Most of them were computer games.
There were two without any label. After checking them with my computer,
I found one of them contained the backup copy of pictures he collected.
The other one contained three short films.
I was touched after viewing the three short films.
He ever told me about the movie-making of his CCA activities when
he was at Primary Five.
He was very keen in taking part of the filming in school.
He also explained to me how the effect was produced in the film with
great interest.
I did watch the short film they produced in school. The school principal
also took part to act as a mother in the film.
I was not aware of how keen he was in movie-making.
He quietly used the camera recorder to make three short films at home.
The camera recorder was a gift came together with the purchase of an expansive watch.
It was not a good camera. Therefore when he requested me to
give it to him, I gave him as a toy for him.
From the production date of the films, I noticed that he took the first two films
on the same day. He went after his mother and recorded her without her notice.
He later recorded his cat friend Longtail when I was watching TV programme.
A few days later he edited the two films and made into a newsreel.
I was touched because I saw his good edition but with the blur recording.
He did not own a good tool in his work.
I remembered that I did not let him use my camera when he was young.
I worried that he would spoil my camera.
In order to fulfill his interest, he used my unwanted camera recorder
to make movies with great pleasure.
During those days, we used to go to the West Coast Park at night.
He would always request me to let him take pictures with my camera.
He was at Secondary One two year later. We went to an Information
Technology Show and he requested me to buy a camera for him.
I paid about $1,700/= to buy a single lens reflex (SLR) digital
camera for him. That was the first time I spent so much money to
get a camera.
Solomon took part in short film making in his CCA when he was at
Secondary School. When he was at Secondary Three, his team won
a Platinum Award for the video competition.
He was so keen in film-making that he decided to take up the
course of Film, Sound and Video at Ngee Ann Polytechnic
when he completed his Secondary study.
He worked at the Youth Olympic Village few days ago.
He shared with me some of the activities he filmed that were
live telecasted to the world.
I was pride with his work.
I loved to take pictures when I was young.
I spent much money in cameras, photography courses and
taking pictures.
My son now has the same interest.
Sometimes when he wanted to buy camera or accessories that
were expensive, I paid for him generously.
I recently watched his first movies that he made when he was ten
years old, I almost cried.
