My son Solomon was awarded the Ngee Ann Polytechnic Scholarship.
I was on my way to attend the Scholarship Award Ceremony on 30 July 2010
afternoon. Although it was raining, I was fervent in my heart.
When Solomon received the letter of award from his Polytechnic,
there was a form of invitation the guests.
Solomon did not show any sign of inviting his mother, teachers or principle.
He was as cool as me when I was young. I told him that he had to invite me.
In the morning of the ceremony, I sent him to school.
He would do his project with his team and stayed until the ceremony.
When I arrived at the car park that afternoon, Solomon called me.
He was already seated in the Convention Centre.
Those students who were receiving the awards were on the right. The lecturers
and guests were on the left. After taking my seat, I tried to look for
Solomon. As there were many students, I could not find out where he was.
I sent message and then called him, he did not tried to look for me at all.
Oh, me dear! Like father, like son.
He studied the course of "Film, Sound and Video". When I attended the
Parents' Forum with his mother on 17 July, we saw the Director Anita of
his School of Film and Media Studies. Anita was cheerful.
She was very positive. She built bridge between us parents and our
children. She reminded us that our children might need to stay back
in school to do project. Besides, they had to do research by
surfing the Internet. She would like us to support our children.
We might once a while 'peep' at what they were surfing on the Internet
to make sure they were doing their studies.
I was very comfortable with the cheerful attitude and positive thinking of Anita.
I felt Solomon had made a right choice.
There were teachers who were positive to guide our children and to help
the parents and children to have mutual understanding. Great!
I wished to take pictures and take video on the moment when
Solomon was on stage. But I could only have one.
When he started to go up the stage and was walking on the stage,
I recalled his childhood. I used to hold his tiny hand. We walked
step by step in most of the evenings.
When I heard his name was announced, I remembered I kept praying
for him before he was born. I prayed God to bless him with
wisdom and understanding. I thought of encourage, excellent, brightness and shine,
therefore I gave him the Chinese name Shao Hui (劭辉).
