There were a few occasions I went to Marina Square when I was at Suntec City.
It has been more than ten years since I used to visit Marina Square
with my son Solomon when he was young.
Some of the shops were different from those ten years ago.
The shopping mall looked both intimate and strange to me.
When Solomon was young, I used to hold his hand and stroll around
this familiar mall. The mall seemed strange to me as I now
walked around with only my backpack.
While I was feeling lonely, I suddenly recalled what I learned
at the YAH! Community College two years ago.
Our instructor and coach Mr. Sean Liew explained to us the
vacant nest.
When the nestling grows and leaves the nest,
we should set it free. Although the nest would be vacant,
we have to change our life style and have a positive mindset.
Thanks Sean for giving us a very good advice.
When I was carrying out the Y2K project, I got a lot of unnecessary pressure
from the customer. It made me exhausted both physically and mentally.
Solomon was started his Primary education at that time.
I was shocked that he picked up vulgar language from his schoolmates.
Hence, I decided to retired when I would be 55 years old at the
beginning of year 2002.
After taking a break of about nine months after my retirement,
I restored myself physically and mentally.
I had more time with Solomon. I coached him in his Chinese Language
as well as disciplined him in his manner.
I assisted to develop him to be a good person.
During those days, Solomon went to Church with me and his mother on Sundays.
We would go to Ginza Plaza for our lunch. We went shopping at the supermarket
before going home.
Sometimes we went to Suntec City. We spent some times at Marina Square
before shopping at the Carrefour Supermarket.
When we were in Marina Square, Solomon and I would stroll around
the shops and his mother would go to the handicraft shop.
Once, when the meeting time with his mother was up, Solomon and I waited
at our meeting point for ten minutes. He was anxious. I asked him
to pray as we did not use mobile phone at that time.
Solomon stood there, closed his eyes and prayed faithfully.
A few mothers passed by. They looked at him and smiled, “So cute!”
When Solomon opened his eyes, he was too glad to see his mother
standing in front of him.
Whenever I visited Marina Square, I recalled our good old days.
After learning much from our coach Mr. Sean Liew, I changed
my mindset and handled the vacant nest well.
