Our Recollections
Our Dinner at Queenstown

Solomon has started to take his dinner with his friends during the weekend more than a year ago. I was not very happy that he spent quite a sum of money on his weekend dinner initially. I later realised that he might need to take more food at the age of 14. Although his mother cooks during the weekday, her cooking skills needed to be improved. Hence, I did not comment on his dining out anymore.

Solomon has taken various foods at different food centres over the past months. He also asked me to visit those food centres and take something more delicious. About ten days ago, we went to Commonwealth Crescent where I stayed more than 30 years ago to take our dinner. But we could get a seat as it was full house. Therefore we went to the food centre in Margaret Drive.

That was the place where I used to visit when I stayed in Queenstown. There were two cinemas then. When Solomon's school was relocated in Queenstown two years ago, he went to Margaret Drive Food Centre with his classmates very often. Therefore he took that place as one of his youth recollections. I told him that it was mine too. But he told me that the Food centre would soon be demolished. Oh dear, it would be our same recollections that out of sight.

We enjoyed our dinner with the delicious dumplings and chicken rice. They were not mass produced in factory.

I like steam dumplings

Slides of ginger in vinegar

I do not like spicy sour soup, but this is tasty

I seldom take deep-fried food to avoid sore throat

Traditional Hainanese chicken rice

with black sauce and blended ginger

Evergreen vegetable

Ages-old signboard

The vanishing recollections

Leading to nowhere
