His Busy School Holidays

We did not plan for any overseas trip during this mid-year school holiday. The holidays started from 26 May 2007 and ended on 24 June 2007. It was a busy vacation for Solomon.

Solomon attended a 3-day camp on the first week of the vacation. It was the National New Media Arts Camp on 28 May to 30 May at Innova Junior College. He attended the camp with three of his schoolmates who took Information Technology (IT) Skills as their Co-Curricular Activities (CCA).

Other than the skills, Solomon learned to get along with youths from other schools and make friend with them. He was tired when he came home on the third day and went to bed very early.

When we went to the Personal Computer (PC) Show on the following day, I told Solomon that I missed him very much on the two evenings when he was at the camp. I asked him whether he missed his mother and me. He answered immediately, "yes!" and followed quickly by saying, "I missed my PC."

On the second week of the vacation Solomon attended a Leadership Training Camp. It was on 4 June to 6 June.

He learned to walk through in a part of dark forest alone. He was pleased that he got that opportunity and experience.

He also had an opportunity to row the kayak. He wished to have this sport game when we went to Pulau Ubin three years ago. He was disappointed when I did not agree to do so. It was because I did not swim and am lack of energy in rowing boat. His dream came true at the camp.

Although Solomon went back to school for only a morning on the third week of the vacation, he spent three days in his friend's house. They did the preparation work for the "Travel and Food Fair" project. They had to go back to school on the fourth week of the vacation to get the project done. He and a few of his classmates was busy in buying the necessary materials, spraying paint on the materials, etc.

On the days when he did not meet up with his classmates, we got the opportunities to go out. On one afternoon, we went to the Clementi bookshop. Solomon bought a book on the 3D modeling, animation, effects, and rendering solution "Maya 8 AT A Glance" in March this year. After reading it, he could not handle the software. As I had seen a related book last week, therefore I asked Solomon to have a look too. We finally bought a copy of "Learning Autodesk Maya 8 - Foundation". Oh dear, it was $100!

We went to Ikea @ Alexandra on the other morning. We look for book shelves and other furniture for our next project. Solomon suggested that we arrange my massy study room. He would like to move his and my personal computers to the study room. He then could do his homework with me in the room. He also suggested that we make the room as a movie and music studio. He had put up the floor plan and methods for soundproof.

It might take quite a while for me to tidy up the room. We visited Ikea to look for suitable furniture and get ready our budget.

We decided to buy a good loudspeaker. We have to get it when his mother was not at home. She would grumble when she sees us buying appliances home.

Solomon went to school for three days on the fourth week of the vacation. They had to do the preparation for the "Travel and Food Fair" to be held in the new term.

As their team had done a bit fairs of works last week, they had more free times in school. Hence, Solomon helped another team leader in his works. Solomon said that that team leader needed manpower. I asked Solomon to get the permission from his own team leader and spared some times for the other team leader. I shared with him on effective leadership. I told him my experience in monitoring and motivating team members. I advised him to be a good and cooperative team member. I also wished that he was helpful to those good team leaders who requested him for assistance.

It was busy and tired for Solomon this vacation.

Two days before the vacation ended, we went to Funan IT Mall to buy a set of loudspeaker. We brought home and installed it when his mother went to attend practice session in the Chinese Orchestra. We then enjoyed our music that evening.

I brought Solomon to the Creative Source on the last day of the vacation. I understood that he dreamed to have the newly launched Zen Wave. I bought him one piece. He was joyful. I saw his long-missing pleasant smile.
