Chingay is an annual event in Singapore. It was started in 1973
after the Government banned the setting of firecrackers in 1972.
The first Chingay Parade was held on 4th February 1973, second
day of Chinese New Year.
Chingay is Asia's grandest street and floats parade.
It showcases the rich multi-cultures and cosmopolitan
cultures in Singapore. It also features exotic performing
groups from all over the world. Singaporeans and tourists
can enjoy high entertainment and fun, non-stop music and
dance, glittering floats and performances at Chingay.
The word "Chingay", in Hokkien, means the art of costume
and masquerade.

Village folk item "The Eight Immortals" from Pujiang, China

Sri Lanka, Taiwan and more.
Pyrotechnics, confetti and special effects galore.
Chingay 2007 is the 35th annual event and to be held on
Friday, 23rd February and
Saturday, 24th February 2007.
