Saint John Island
15-16.01.2009

Solomon went to Saint John Island for their school's camp in January. He took the following pictures during his 3-day 2-night camp.

I ever wrote a Chinese article 圣约瀚岛的沧桑 which was published in my Chinese website. My parents told me that when they arrived at Singapore many years ago, they were sent to St. John Island. They stayed in the Island for a week as the British Colonial Government wanted them to 'be sterilised'.

That was the quarantine action taken by the British Colonial Government. Earlier before my mother was arrived from China, those immigrants had to be naked during the quarantine. Some women were not be able to bear the shame and committed suicide. Where was the human right?

After the protest by the people and local Chinese leaders, the Government changed its measure.

There were many immigrants from China in the recent years. Some of the educated but with low morals immigrants sneered at our poor uneducated ancestors. Those recent immigrants arrived at our air-conditioned Changi airport; were they aware of how our ancestors build up our country? They were as ugly as the Colonial Government.
