Hari Raya Aidilfitri in Teban Gardens
Our Life in Singapore

Other than Geylang Serai, Teban Gardens is another residential area where there are more Malays.

A few Malay friends ever told me that Teban Gardens was a village before it was developed into a residential area. There were fish ponds and orchards.

Teban Gardens and Pandan Gardens formed a residential area outside the Jurong Industrial Estate. There has been a Pandan Primary School and it was closed in the beginning of this year. There has also been a River Valley High School. After it moved the school building was rebuilt and it is now the building of Commonwealth Secondary School.

There is a Chinese temple beside the Pandan River. There are two Christian Churches. A mosque Masjid Hasanah is in Teban Gardens.

Pandan Reservoir is a popular landmark of Teban Gardens and Pandan Gardens.

After taking breakfast on 1 October, we saw a large crowd outside the mosque. Some of them were leaving the mosque after the morning worship. Some of them were coming for another worship session. The number of foreign workers staying nearby has increased from about six thousands three years ago to 12 thousands these days.

We went home to take our cameras and went to the mosque to take pictures.

As our Singapore is a multi-racial country, there are many festivals of different ethnic groups. In these festivals we can see many familiar customs. It is easy for us to capture the harmony moments as most of us enjoy the camera function of our hand phones. We have also need to maintain the peacefulness of our society.
