Other than the Sundays and annual leave, employees enjoy eleven paid holidays a year.
The major public holidays in Singapore reflect the cultural and religious diversity of the country, including the Chinese New Year, Buddhist Vesak Day, Muslim Hari Raya Puasa as well as Hari Raya Haji, and Hindu Deepavali. Public holidays related to the Christians are Christmas Day and Good Friday. This represents a carefully calibrated distribution of public holidays given to each group. Amongst the eleven public holidays, four of them fall on fixed dates. The four holidays are the New Year's Day (1st January), Labour Day (1st May), National Day (9th August) and Christmas Day (25th December). The other public holidays are based on various calendars, including Lunar Calendar, Buddist Calendar, Islamic Calendar and Hindu calendar. The Ministry of Manpower maintains the complete and updated list of public holidays in Singapore, as issued by the Government. |
